OUR STORY

It was planned and established by the Irvington church as an effort to extend the work and facilities of the Church of Christ in this area and to relieve its own overcrowded conditions. The first membership included seventy-three names, most of which were from Irvington, but some from other congregations. David H. Bobo was hired as the first minister, but, due to other commitments, could not attend the first week of services. Dr. Earl West spoke at the opening service, with other local ministers continuing the gospel meeting that week.

The church's first property was a small and old building at the corner of Prospect and Spruce Streets. The growth of the congregation made it necessary to purchase six additional pieces of property for building and parking purposes. In 1963 the church began removing old buildings to erect the present structure. The first worship meeting in the new building was held on the first Sunday of 1964. The education wing of the building was not in use until June 1964. 

The first elders appointed were Lewis Hurley and Clifford Adams. The first deacons were Everett Embry, Eugene Kent and Walton Sturgeon. The current elders are Russell Miller and Durden Pierce.   

Ministers who have served the congregation full time have included David H. Bobo, R. Scott Colglazier, Carson E. Reed, Michael Stufflebeam, James Savage, Eric Hallett, Derrick L. Bean and Eddie Parsley. Our current minister is Robert Young.
